Fostering a German Shepherd Dog

Thank you for your interest in fostering a German Shepherd!

If accepted applicants will be asked to fill out and sign the official WGSR Foster and Volunteer Agreements.

Please be patient. Someone will respond to your application as soon as a volunteer has been found to make a home visit. This may take a week or more. If you do not hear from one of our volunteers within a week or two, please contact WGSR at washingtonshepherds@yahoo.com.

WGSR adopts to surrounding states, such as Idaho or Oregon, so we are also looking for foster homes in those states.

Terms of Foster Agreement

I, (re-type full name), hereby acknowledge the following policies and agree to abide by them during the entire time I am fostering dogs for WGSR. Please read and check the box next to each of the following terms to indicate your agreement. Your application cannot be processed until you have agreed to each term.

1) I understand that my role is solely as a temporary home, and that the placement of any dogs I foster will be conducted by the Breed Rep. It is the Breed Rep's job to review and interview potential adoptors.

2) I will remember in all my dealings with the public as a foster volunteer that I represent WGSR, and that the public will consider my words and actions to be representative of the attitudes and positions of WGSR as an organization. I understand that as an individual, I am not authorized to speak for WGSR, nor can I enter into any agreements for WGSR; any such activity will be referred to the Board of Directors.

3) I have read and understand the WGSR mission, and will not undertake any actions that could be considered inconsistent with the mission. If I engage in activities of a political or controversial nature they will only be done as an individual, separate from any association with WGSR.

4) I understand that I am personally responsible for any and all financial expenses that I incur in my efforts to foster dogs for WGSR. Although WGSR may reimburse my expenses, I agree that each expense must be supported by receipts, must be pre-approved by the Breed Rep. I accept full responsibility for any expenses incurred by me that fall outside of approved expenditures. I will always remember that I represent a nonprofit organization and in no way can profit from any activity related to the organization.

5) I understand that WGSR cannot guarantee or be held responsible for the temperment, behavior, or health of foster dogs that I may handle. I am aware that foster dogs may cause damage to my personal property, other pets, and humans. I will keep dogs securely contained at all times while in my care.

6) I understand that it is my decision to foster dogs for WGSR. I will not hold WGSR liable for any damage, injury, or harm caused directly or indirectly through my fostering activities with WGSR. I carry insurance coverage in the event of personal or liability damages resulting from fostering dogs for WGSR.

7) I understand that my foster volunteer position will be terminated if my conduct is deemed in opposition of the mission of WGSR, or detrimental to the best interests of WGSR.

8) I certify that I have read and understood the above-referenced policies ofWGSR.

9) I certify that I am age 18 or older.

10) I certify that all information in this application is true, and understand that false information may void this application and my ability to volunteer/foster with WGSR.

11) I understand WGSR will conduct a screening of my information, and I hereby give WGSR permission to contact me, my references, my veterinarian, and any other sources necessary during this screening. Thank you for volunteering to become a foster home for WGSR. Our Foster Coordinator should be contacting you shortly after receiving your application to conduct a phone interview.
